This course seeks to provide faculty members with a comprehensive understanding of service-learning (SL) as a transformative educational approach, equipping participants to design impactful interdisciplinary projects in higher education contexts.

The course will help attendees understand the fundamentals of SL along with its key challenges and benefits. Learning will be reinforced through hands-on activities, and participants will reflect on their progress using a personal learning log.

To highlight the cross-cutting nature of SL, the program includes talks and round tables featuring instructors, students, and third-sector organizations who will share experiences rooted in different academic fields.

Prerequisites: 

  • B2/C1 English proficiency
  • Faculty staff with one semester of teaching experience (at least)

Content and Methodology

During the course, participants will learn how to plan and develop their own SL proposal addressing essential ethical, collaborative, and sustainability considerations.


Participants will eventually design a joint SL project proposal they will refine and present during the final block of the course.


The program will be taught in English; therefore, a high level of proficiency is required (B2/C1).


this activity is co-created togheter with Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and University of Porto.
