Description

This workshop is your chance to transform your scientific knowledge into impactful innovation ideas and conceptual prototypes. Designed for researchers and advanced students, this hands-on experience will guide you in exploring the transfer potential of your research and how it can be applied to create practical health solutions.

Working in collaborative teams, you'll tackle real-world global health challenges by developing market-ready ideas grounded in your research. To maximize impact, the workshop also includes a session on impact assessment, focusing on economic, ecological, and societal value. You'll gain valuable insights into measuring the real-world impact of your ideas, while considering the unique timelines and challenges of addressing global health issues.

Students are expected to arrive on-site in Munich by 15h on January 20th (travel day).

  • 20.01.2025 - Day 1: travel and arrival by early afternoon. The workshop will begin with a kick-off where students will be introduced to the concepts of sciencepreneurship, the transfer of scientific insights into market ideas, and impact innovation. Students will form teams and define a global health challenge they want to tackle together.
  • 21.01.2025 - Day 2: in the morning students will focus on understanding the fit between the user profiles and potential solutions, and decide on a solution they want to develop further. The afternoon will be used to prototype the solution based on identified user needs and problems.
  • 22.01.2025 - Day 3: in the morning students will dive into how to measure the impact of their proposed solution. The afternoon will be used to learn about pitching solution ideas to different audiences and preparing a pitch deck. The workshop will conclude with a Pitch Event in the evening, where student teams pitch their solution for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • 23.01.2025 - Day 4: departure and travel back.

Please apply for the workshop with your CV, Transcript of Records (if applicable), and an abstract (ca. half page) that outlines your proposed solution, its relevance / potential, and the global health challenge it addresses.

Join us to bridge the gap between research and innovation, and take the first step in turning your ideas into tangible solutions for a healthier world!

Content and Methodology

This workshop aims to empower researchers and advanced students to apply their scientific knowledge toward innovative ideas and conceptual prototypes. Participants will have the opportunity to assess the transfer potential of their research and explore pathways to transform their findings into practical health solutions. Working in teams, attendees will develop market-oriented ideas to address targeted global health challenges based on their research.

The workshop employs design thinking principles alongside a value proposition canvas that integrates multiple stakeholder perspectives and value dimensions, including economic, societal, and ecological factors. By focusing on the stakeholder perspective, participants will dive deep into understanding the needs of targeted users, ensuring their solutions are both innovative and relevant to real-world health challenges.

Participants have to apply with an idea for a novel solution to a problem that thwarts global health progress. This can be in any of the domains of global health. Participants will be selected according to the relevancy of the problem to the domain of global health as well as the potential impact of solving the identified problem.
