Description

Are you a student looking for an opportunity to develop leadership skills while enhancing your own and your fellow students’ intercultural competence?

Perhaps you are also keen to meet new people from diverse cultural backgrounds and make new friends, all while learning facilitation and mediation skills?

Then look no further! The Intercultural Skills Programme, organised by EUGLOH, offers students a unique opportunity to gain both theoretical knowledge about interculturality and to meet new people in a social setting.

What is the EUGLOH Intercultural Skills Programme?

The programme is structured in a mentorship format, with each participating EUGLOH university forming student-led mentor groups. Each mentor group includes one group leader and student participants from your own university with different cultural backgrounds.

Over six weeks, you and your group will attend three online lectures that provide insights into various concepts of interculturality. During these online lectures, you will have the opportunity to engage with students from other universities and hear diverse perspectives. As a student leader for the programme, you will organise and lead two social meetups with discussion points derived from the lectures.

Content and Methodology

What does it mean to be a group leader in the EUGLOH Intercultural Skills Programme?

Before the programme begins, you will be invited to a training session from 3–5 November, held in person in Tromsø, Norway, to learn how to facilitate intercultural discussions and gain practical experience and tools for mediation.

A total of 16 students (two per partnering EUGLOH university) will be selected to attend the group leader training days in Tromsø.

During the programme, you will attend the two online lectures with your group, exploring various concepts of interculturality as mentioned above.

Additionally, there will be two discussion/social gathering meetings that combine academic and social elements. You will organise a meeting with your mentor group, spending the first hour discussing topics from the online lectures, followed by time to get to know each other and socialise.
