Description |
This Blended Intensive Program (BIP) aims to equip future researchers as well as health and social care professionals with the knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness to advocate for migrants' right to health and to plan research on migrants’ mental and physical health.
The 15-week BIP includes an 11-week pre-mobility phase, a 5-day mobility phase in Munich, and a 3-week post-mobility phase.
Completing the course will earn the students 5 ECTS credits, equivalent to 150 lecture-hours (45 minutes). (The number of credits and total hours required may differ slightly between universities. For example, the University of Porto will have 148.5 study hours and 5.5 ECTS.) |

Content and Methodology |
Throughout the BIP, the students will
- improve their understanding of migration by encouraging critical thinking about migration-related concepts, identifying instances of discrimination, and examining health determinants during migration
- Develop their research skills, empowering them to critically evaluate migration health literature and develop research project proposals.
- Build competence in designing health promotion and prevention programs tailored to diverse migrant populations.
The course adopts a research-based learning approach, centring on the development of a project proposal.
Key concepts are revisited and expanded upon throughout the 15 weeks, the program will ensure the simultaneous and progressive acquisition of knowledge, critical perspectives, and research skills related to migration health. Individual mentoring for project proposal, guided critical appraisal as well as peer interaction support the research-based learning. The first online part of the course (11 weeks) includes synchronous and asynchronous online components such as video lectures, films and by peer-moderated discussions. Students are also encouraged to enhance their understanding through brief tasks, self-study time, and suggested learning materials. Collaborative learning, scenario-based education, that promotes problem-solving, and field-based learning are all part of the course's in-person phase (1 week). The course's second online part (3 weeks) will include reflective learning and will be online. |
