The course Building Soft Skills in the Digital Age is designed to help students develop essential soft skills—digital literacy, communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students will work on real-world global issues aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG4: Quality Education), integrating collaborative digital tools and techniques to improve group work and effective communication.

By the end of this course, students will be able to: 

• Demonstrate an understanding of digital literacy and its role in modern education and work environments.
• Collaborate effectively in teams using digital platforms for problem-based learning.
• Enhance communication skills and critical thinking skills through discussion and presentation of global issues.
• Analyze global issues (SDG3 and SDG4) and propose solutions through a problem-solving framework.
• Apply digital tools to facilitate group collaboration, communication, and project management.

Target group
Students at all levels of study and from all fields of study who would like to enhance their knowledge of digital tools and their collaborative and conversational skills in English on key global topics.

Workload:

• Pre-session reading about SDG3 and SDG4
• In-session participation (four two-hour sessions – lectures/workshops)
• Asynchronous work on the final project assignment.

At the end of the course, reflection activities will provide an opportunity for joint and individual assessment of the experience and the process.

The course includes online lectures which will introduce basic concepts regarding online problem-based learning, digital literacy skills, communication skills and  UN sustainable development goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 4 (Quality Education). These lectures will be accompanied by workshops where students will be trained to use the suggested digital tools for online synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, create presentations and provide constructive feedback. The final joint session will be devoted to group presentations, peer review and reflection on the process and take-aways from this learning experience.

In addition, students will collaborate asynchronously within their groups on the problem they chose to deal with, which they will share with other groups.

Students will be supported by the teachers through additional online consultation sessions to discuss any issues they might have.
