This workshop gives you the opportunity to try out some unfamiliar tools and to discuss their possible applications with colleagues from partner universities. The workshop is led by experienced facilitators in pedagogy and digital applications. You will be supported to explore the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools in developing materials for your courses. You will also discuss the ethical and professional implications of such work.
Content and methodology
The rapid emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) presents those working in higher education with a range of challenges. Do they have any place in our working lives in universities? We will consider this important question via an active workshop where participants can try out the tools in a realistic situation of their own. This will allow us to frame the discussion around the potential of GAI tools while upholding the values of thoughtful pedagogy and academic rigour.
Participants will be asked to prepare for the session by learning about Generative AI using a self-study package. During the workshop, they will test out various tools for different tasks, working online or in real life in small groups. They will then present their outputs and their thoughts about the ethics and professionalism involved, and how this might apply to their own development and what they expect of students.
You will get:
- information about the use of GAI in education
- support to explore an unfamiliar tool
- to discuss about the ethics and professional implications of using GAI as a tool in teaching
- to shar practices with colleagues from other universities and subject areas.
Expected workload
Hands-on workshop. Two hours preparation in the two weeks before the session, then group activities on the day, followed by personal reflections. Total time needed: 7 hours.
Target group
The workshop is targets towards university teachers or those who teaches or designs study sessions (eg in a library or study centre) at a EUGLOH partner university.
