| Description |
The activity will provide familiarization with the potentials of biowaste of different origin, and reveal new horizons for converting biowaste into valuable products, such as platform molecules, added-value products, biofuel etc. The activity will encompass both theoretical knowledge-building, and practical training in laboratory environment. The most advantageous and modern technologies will be practically applied on different biowaste types. The focus will be put on presenting the cutting-edge technology – subcritical water extraction/decomposition, for converting biowaste into valuable products. Practical training on chemical and biological characterisation of functional fractions prepared by trainees themselves will be provided. The creativity of the candidates will be fostered in group workshops with competition/award methodology to trigger and motivate the candidates. Workshops will tackle certain real situation challenges and problems, to foster candidates’ creativity, team work and interdisciplinarity. |

| Content and Methodology |
The theoretical knowledge building will be assured by expert lectures and presentations, delivered by renowned academics and industrial professional. Practical training will include:
- application of subcritical water extraction of biowaste
- subcritical water decomposition of cellulose-based, starch-rich and protein-rich biowaste
- encapsulation of bioactives previously extracted from waste
- development and manufacturing of functional food and cosmetic products by integrating previously obtained functional biowaste-based fractions. |
