Description
The Language and Culture Survival Backpack is a series of six online tutorials that allow participants to explore a new language and culture with local student tutors. The program fosters interactive learning, cultural exchange, and social connections. Completing at least five sessions earns a certificate and entry into a lottery for a short mobility experience at the University of Porto. It is primarily aimed at beginners but may include higher levels if places are available.

We invite you to take part in the EUGLOH Survival Backpack 6x60 minute long online tutorials between October 27th and December 19th.
Learn interesting basic information about the culture of one of the EUGLOH universities and get a taste of a new language with the help of trained local student tutors!
Make new friends and enjoy exchanging ideas in small, interactive groups!
Choose from French, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Spanish, or Serbian!
What do you gain by participating in the 6 tutorials?
You will learn about a new language and culture from a local student;
If you are considering Erasmus mobility, you will receive useful information;
If you fully participate in a minimum of 5 out of 6 tutorials;
You will receive a certificate of attendance.

Students from Partner Universities, excluding U.Porto students, will be eligible for a lottery, and the two lucky winners from each participating university will be offered a three-day EUGLOH student mobility at the University of Porto at the beginning of February 2026.
How to apply?
Choose a language (and culture) that you’d like to learn about and that your schedule allows!
Make sure you indicate your second and third choices in case there are too many applicants.
The program prioritises beginners, but in case of free places, we launch pre-intermediate or intermediate tutorials as well.
Information such as the Home university, the Host university, preferred language and language proficiency should be indicated in the “Expected Benefits” field of the application form.

This activity combines basic language learning with cultural awareness in a short, interactive format led by local student tutors. Its content focuses on introducing everyday communication in one of the EUGLOH languages (French, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Spanish, or Serbian) alongside key aspects of the respective culture, while the methodology is experiential and group-based, emphasizing peer interaction and practical communication.

Methodology
The methodology consists of six progressive 60-minute sessions in small, interactive groups, led by local student tutors in a communicative, beginner-friendly format that integrates culture and language learning.
